Mini-Incision No Scalpel Vasectomy Reversal
Advances in medical technology and new surgical techniques have revolutionized
the approach to vasectomy reversal. Select patients can now be offered a new
minimally invasive technique for their vasectomy reversal. The mini-incision no
scalpel vasectomy reversal technique utilizes the same minimally invasive
instruments used for no-scalpel vasectomy to reduce the size of the surgical
incision and to help speed the recovery after a vasectomy reversal.
Similar to no-scalpel vasectomy, the initial mini-incision is created using a sharp penetrating forcep that spreads the tissue apart instead of cutting it with a sharp scalpel. This has been shown to minimize swelling and bruising in patients undergoing vasectomy procedures.

The vas deferens is delivered
through the small opening in the
scrotum. The image to the right
demonstrates how the vas
deferens can be isolated just
beneath the previous vasectomy
site. A titanium clip from the
previous vasectomy identifies the
vasectomy site.
Microsurgical two layer
vasectomy reversal using a
high-powered operating
microscope allows for precise
apposition and alignment of the
cut ends of the vas deferens.
The no scalpel vasectomy
instruments facilitate the process.

A single dissolvable suture is
used to close the small opening
no-scalpel vasectomy reversal
technique. The total incision is
usually less than 1 cm in length.
